Improve your impromptu communication skills to become a better innovator.
On this podcast, we talk a lot about how to have ideas and be more innovative. On the flip side, how you communicate, interact, and behave is also critical to getting your innovative ideas across. However, often when you have to think on your feet, you end up feeling like you haven’t said what you want to say, how you want to say it. Lucky for us, impromptu communication skills can be learned, and Jennifer Brown joins me on to teach us just that.
Jennifer runs The Engaging Educator and Fearless Winston Salem. Through both, she helps people bring out their best communication style and confidence. Since launching The Engaging Educator in 2012, she and her team have served 50,000 students, including working with companies such as Etsy, Food Network, and Duke University.
Part of being an innovator is being open to listening to other people, not just waiting to react. Jennifer shares why you should always give yourself the grace to take a moment to think about what you want to say and how you want to say it in an impromptu situation, and some of her favorite improv exercises to better your listening and communication skills. We also dive into the mind shift needed to move from using ‘Yes, and’ incorrectly to agree with everything, to using it to frame our disagreement to be more open to new ideas and innovation. Jennifer also teaches us how to how to recognize when we’re not being active listeners, and what we can do to address that.
If you are ready to:
get buy-in from key decision-makers on your next big idea
be a high-impact, high-value member that ignites change
foster a culture of innovation where everyone on your team is bringing innovative ideas that tackle challenges and seize opportunities…
