Top mistakes people make in innovation – not moving from discussion to decision

One of the top mistakes people make in innovation is not moving from discussion to decision quickly. When you’re going from discussion to decision, I find that oftentimes people get trapped in discussion for way too long and yes collaboration is good and yes thinking this thing through is good. But, here’s the challenge with that. There’s a point where you’re discussing too much, you cannot assess the viability of a conversation. You don’t know if it’s going to work based on what’s on paper.

I want you to think about how you can get to decision first, and you know when you get to that moment, by the way, when you’ve got that kind of analysis paralysis when you’ve been kind of discussing for too long? It’s when you start talking about hypotheticals, when you start focusing on those details that just don’t matter to the idea. You know when you hit those moments don’t let that analysis paralysis happen. Move to decision faster and then you’ll be able to see what really works and what doesn’t.
